Drill Team Commander (2013-2014) : C/2nd Lt. Daryll Munoz
On Saturday, November 23, the NJ-761 Drill Team participated in its first Drill Competition of the year hosted at Jackson Liberty High School in Jackson, New Jersey. 36 cadets in addition to the SASI and ASI woke up bright and early to come to Piscataway High School that morning. At 0600 hours the bus departed and off to Jackson the team went!
After about fifty minutes of driving, the team finally arrived at the school campus excited and nervous about what's to come. In addition to the students and instructors, several parents and family members came to support the team and cadets. Thank you! The team was to participate in all events except Armed Flight Exhibition. This was the day when all of the hard work and practice pay off! In addition to Piscataway High School, several other high schools competed from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York.
In addition to events in the drill category, NJ-761 also participated in the academic portion of the competition. Cadets who took the academic test were C/Maj. Shivang Pandya, C/CMSgt. Harshel Patel, and C/SMSgt. Joseph Westendorf After a long day of drill, inspection, and testing, cadets had lunch. The food offered ranged from empanadas to curly fries and they were definitely satisfying. After lunch, the team participated in three more events: Unarmed Dual Exhibition, Armed Dual Exhibition, and Unarmed Team Exhibition. | The first team to perform was New Cadet Basic Team commanded by C/AB Bivi Baby, followed by both Armed and Unarmed Color Guards commanded by C/MSgt Marc Labilles. The next teams to perform were Unarmed and Armed Inspection commanded by C/A1C Ralph Costas and C/A1C Abhishek Arya and Unarmed and Armed Regulation commanded by C/A1C Ralph Costas and C/A1C Ankush De respectively. |
After all events, it was time to put back all equipment on the bus and anticipate the upcoming closing ceremony. All schools were filled with adrenaline and anxiety to hear about the results, but announcing winners would only occur after a long game of knockout. Although no one from NJ-761 was able to receive the coveted knockout trophy, all cadets who participated made a great attempt.
Now it is time to distribute trophies. Overall the unit earned a total of four trophies that afternoon: 1st Place in Academic Test, 2nd Place in Unarmed Dual Exhibition, 2nd Place in Armed Dual Exhibition, and 3rd Place in New Cadet Basic Team. After a very exciting competition, it was finally time to go back to Piscataway, but of course, the team cannot do so without singing jodies on the way!
Outstanding job to all cadets, not only on the drill deck, but for maintaining a positive behavior and representing the corp with utmost professionalism. Also, the unit NJ-782 and its cadets deserve a lot of praise for hosting a very well organized competition. Now it is time to prepare for our upcoming two competitions!
