7:50 in the morning and fellow cadets are all at school getting ready to load the bus to head to Central Jersey Regional Airport. The bus ride was full of nervous energy. No one knew what was in store for them. When we arrived, we walked into a trailer, which was where we spend most of the day if we weren't in the plane or outside drilling, we discovered that we were going to be flying in planes. We were all excited but we had to wait our turns. There was one airplane that was flying us around and 3 cadets were in the plane at a time.
But before getting in the airplanes, we meet our two pilots for the day, Lt Col Amy Myzie and Major Wards. We were briefed about safety, crew protocols, and aeronautics. And after the plane warmed up, the first group of cadets headed out with Lt Col Amy Myzie. Before getting in the plane, cadets in their blues changed from the service jackets into the staff jackets which kept them warmer.
When the first group of cadets were out in the air, the other cadets were inside learning about Civil Air Patrol(CAP) with Lt Col Franklin Porath and Capt Brewer. Around lunch time, the pilots switched and Col Franklin Porath left. After we ate lunch we were left to relax. Some of us went outside to play knockout and others climbed the hill that was next to the trailers. At the end of the day, we swept the trailer and tidied up the place the way we found it. The last group that was on the airplane helped put the plane away while everyone else loaded onto the bus.
Needless to say, all the cadets are happy and can't wait to go back next year.
